Dr. Barbara D. Swankhouse earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. She completed her undergraduate studies at Colorado State University–Pueblo, graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with an emphasis in Cellular and Molecular Biology. During her time there, she was a member of the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society and consistently earned placement on the Dean’s List.

Dr. Swankhouse began her academic journey at Pikes Peak Community College, where she was recognized for her academic achievements as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and a consistent honoree on the President’s Honor Roll.

With a career in dentistry that began in 1991, Dr. Swankhouse first worked as a dental assistant before pursuing her doctorate. This hands-on foundation, combined with decades of experience, allows her to deliver thoughtful, high-quality, and patient-focused care.

A proud “virtual native” of Colorado, Dr. Swankhouse moved to the state at the age of four when her father was stationed at Fort Carson. She has remained in Colorado ever since, completing all of her education and building her professional career in the community she calls home.

Dr. Swankhouse is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, Colorado Dental Association, Metro Denver Dental Society, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and the Colorado Prosthodontic Society, one of the nation’s oldest study clubs, where she has also served on the board. She is also a fellow of the International College of Dentists.

She is passionate about continuing education and professional involvement, volunteering her time with the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention, the Colorado Dental Association Finance Committee, and the Metro Denver Dental Society Continuing Education Committee. She also gives back to the community through her participation in the Colorado Mission of Mercy.

At Swankhouse Dental, Dr. Swankhouse and her team are committed to a conservative, relationship-based approach to care. Patients are treated like family, with an emphasis on honesty, thoroughness, and long-term oral health rather than quick or unnecessary procedures. The practice focuses on taking the time to listen, explain options clearly, and ensure patients feel comfortable and confident in their care. Many patients appreciate the friendly, welcoming atmosphere and the consistency of seeing a team that truly knows them—something that reflects the close-knit culture of the office.

Dr. Swankhouse is committed to lifelong learning and continually seeks opportunities to expand her knowledge and provide the highest level of care to her patients.

Stibalys
StibalysDental Assistant
I go by Stibs, don’t worry! I’m thrilled to be a part of Swankhouse Dental where I can contribute to a positive and empowering dental team.

I’m born and raised in Colorado, where I’ve spent my life surrounded by beautiful snowy mountain tops, but I have to admit- snow has never been my favorite! If you asked me about my ideal day, I’d choose to be a lizard sunbathing on a beach 24/7, enjoying the warmth and sunshine.

It’s been amazing working with vibrant colleagues who have made my work environment feel like a true team effort, and seeing the level of dedication for patient care and education. Having spent numerous years as a caregiver to my family- both in the past and currently- I understand the importance of providing comfort, support and clear communication to patients. I look forward to continuing to grow, build trust with patients and contribute to a nurturing dental team.
